Welcome to the 2023 Conquer the Cave 5K! The race starts in a beautiful valley with picturesque mountains and fields in the background. Once runners get to the 1.9 mile mark they will enter the crown jewel of caves in the Southeast. The portion of the 5k course that runs through the cave is an out and back 0.6mi that is wide enough for 2 way traffic. Runners will pick up a glow stick at the turn around point and the decorative lighting will be on at all times. The average temperatures for race day are a low of 54F, high of 79F. Meanwhile inside the cave the year round temperature is a cool 58F. This will truly be a race like no other.

There will be very loose cutoffs. Our goal is for everyone to have a blast and a one of a kind experience running through a natural wonder, no matter what your experience level is. There will be a 1hr and 5min cutoff. We ask that you please respect the state park and volunteers and adhere to this cutoff time. The race cap is 1500 runners. In 2023, you will have the option to select which wave you want to participate in based upon availability when registering online. There is a cap of 150 runners per wave so once one wave is sold out, you need to select your second wave choice.

Boston or Bust Marathon (runsignup.com)
It's (almost) time to book your tickets to run Boston! The Boston or Bust Marathon will be an extremely flat and fast course along Aldridge Creek and Tennessee River in South Huntsville. The course will start and finish at Ditto Landing Marina and is entirely on the Alridge Creek Greenway.
We will have Chip Timing and both half and full marathon courses will be certified.
..And then there's the post race party. We will have post race food for all finishers, 2 drink tickets, post race music, all at the Ditto Landing Marina Pavilion. We believe in training hard, racing hard and celebrating hard and this race will be no different!
Historically the last window to qualify for the following April Boston race is the second weekend in September. This is one of the very few last minute qualifiers in the South. Average Temperatures at this time of year are 64F/ 87F which is why we will start at 6:00AM.
Packet pickup will be on Saturday September 7th, 2024 at Back Forty Brewery from 12-5pm. Back Forty Brewery is located at Address: 3254 Leeman Ferry Rd SW Huntsville, AL 35801. There will be packet pickup race day morning beginning at 5:00am (race starts at 6:00am sharp!) but we HIGHLY recommend you pick up Saturday.

Weather & Cutoffs
These are low-traffic trails, so we expect this race to go off rain or shine. In the event of severe weather (highly unlikely in November) we will delay the start as necessary to avoid lightening. If severe weather threatens the entire day and does not appear to let up, we may be forced to cancel. However this is not typical for this area during this time of year.
Average Temperatures: Low: 44F, High: 67F
The cutoff for the 5K is 1hr15min. This works out to be 24:00min /mi pace. The 15K cutoff is 2hr30min or 16:40min/ mi pace. If you cannot maintain 16min pace we ask that you please consider running the 5K. There are cave tours that will start after the race so we must adhere to these strict cutoffs.
